The Pilot Program That Could See Australian's Travelling Internationally In Under 8 Weeks
Australian’s who’ve braved their local clinic and have been vaccinated against COVID-19, may be allowed to travel internationally and return back to Australia.
Federal Health Minister, Greg Hunter, revealed a proposal for a trial for Australians who have been vaccinated against COVID, that would enable them to overseas and return with less strict quarantine requirements.
After questioning from Liberal MP Jason Falinski, who had asked if vaccinations could see travellers exempt from outbound restrictions and inbound quarantine requirements, Hunt briefed the Liberal Party room about a taskforce established to review the possibility of softening travel protocols for vaccinated Australian travellers.
Modelling for the program has begun, according to a report in The Guardian.

How Would International Travel Work?
It’s proposed that Australians who have been vaccinated who travel to countries that vaccination rates can be accurately identified, could be involved in the pilot program that would allow them to return to Australia with less restriction, potentially using home isolation over mandatory hotel quarantine. This would then free up hotel quarantine for higher risk countries.

Where Could Australians Travel?
Countries currently accurately reporting vaccination rates include the UK, US, Singapore, and Canada and are deemed low risk countries. Just this week France, Denmark, Italy opened to international travellers as part of the EU Digital COVID Certificate (https://ec.europa.eu/info/live-work-travel-eu/coronavirus-response/safe-covid-19-vaccines-europeans/eu-digital-covid-certificate_en), where other European countries such as Greece, Croatia, Germany, Denmark and Bulgaria have already started issuing certificates.
With Australia’s vaccination roll out somewhat slower than planned, new community vaccination hubs in Queensland, Victoria’s vaccination blitz and increased focus in other states, have seen over 5 million doses given and over half a million people fully vaccinated with the second dose.
