1. Lake McKenzie
The purest of pure white soft sand acts as a filter to the lake, giving Lake McKenzie one of the world's clearest azure waters.
2. Rolling Sand Dune Fun
With World Heritage status, Fraser Island boasts the title of the world's largest sand island. Rolling dunes and fun as far as the eye can see!
3. The Howling Locals
Travellers love spotting the most wild inhabitants on Fraser, the local dingo. And while they're certainly not lap dogs, these protected species are one of the purest strain of dingo in Australia due to the island's remote location and the fact domestic dogs are banned. You'll notice their distinct howl, as dingoes do not bark like domestic dogs.
4. Floating Down Eli Creek
The largest creek on the eastern beach of Fraser Island, Eli Creek streams up to 4 million litres of its crystal-clear water into the ocean every hour! One of the most popular picnic and swimming spots, you can also follow it's boardwalk through the banksia and pandanus trees without getting your feet wet. Not that locals and travellers alike stay dry - Eli Creek is one of the most popular creeks to float your boogie board down!
5. Ancient History Relics
The S.S Maheno shipwreck, is beached about 10km north of Happy Valley thanks to a cyclone in 1935. It was once a famous trans-Tasman cruise liner. Even though the rusty hull is slowly deteriorating in this salt graveyard, she is a wonderful piece of Australian history and provides a great social media shot.
6. Chill In The Natural Jacuzzi
One of the most unique natural attractions, these naturally formed rock pools create a collection of sandy swimming holes, overlooking the ocean with incredible views. Sometimes even the local fish can have a swim when a big ocean wave sweeps into the pools. The Champagne Pools are especially calm and low tide and offer the perfect place to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the surrounds.
7. Have a Whale of a Time
Hervey Bay made the east coast famous for humpback whale watching. From August to October you can see these giant mothers nuture their new calves in the protected waters off Fraser Island.
8. The real starry night
With its remote location away from the city lights, Fraser Island offers wonderful star-gazing. Lovers and families alike can unite in the joy of spotting the Southern Cross or the Saucepan!
